Pros
- Dishes are well-balanced and pack all the essential Thai flavours of sweet, spicy, salty, and sour
- Accommodating staff
Cons
- Small serving size
- Pricey
Sawadee Thai Cuisine’s medley of robust and enticing Thai dishes wasn’t just a head-turner but was also packed with intense yet delicious flavours.
With the recommendation of their very accommodating staff, we were able to finalise a solid spread consisting of their papaya salad, Thai-style fish cakes, Thai red curry crab meat, and Wagyu beef kra pow.
The salad and the Thai fish cakes were pretty decent starters that, when eaten together, make the best sour, sweet, and salty combo. The fish cakes, in particular, were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, making them a delight to eat.
Now, the real stars of the show were crab meat curry and their Wagyu version of kra pow. Fair warning though, both are super spicy!
Spiciness aside, the coconut-based curry was rich and packed with just the right amount of salt. The same goes with the kra pow in terms of its savoury goodness, which was further elevated by the tender and well-seasoned Wagyu.
It’s just a shame that the serving portion was a bit too small for every dish. We expected a hefty serving size since their price was pretty steep.

Pros
- Budget-friendly Thai food
- Dishes featured fresh fruits and seafood
Cons
- Can get crowded even past peak hours
- Desserts are a bit bland
Time For Thai is the perfect place for people who are looking for budget-friendly Thai food.
We particularly loved their mango salad, which was not only sweet and refreshing but also the perfect complement to their crispy and salty prawn cakes.
For our main, we ordered tom yum seafood fried rice to pair with their stir fry basil chicken and steamed sea bass with spicy lemon sauce.
We admit that the slightly tangy seafood rice wasn’t the best accompaniment to the steamed sea bass, as it also packs acidity, but the fish was soft and the rich lemon sauce was too good not to eat with rice.
The chicken was also tasty, but it could do with a bit more basil. Thankfully, they’re very tender and really paired well with the rice.
Since these dishes were pretty affordable, we decided to treat ourselves to their desserts.
We ordered their mango and coconut ice cream and mango sticky rice, which ended up being a bit bland for our liking. In our opinion, they would have been delectable if they were sweeter and creamier.
The restaurant was also pretty crowded even though it wasn’t peak hours when we got there. The only table that was free was unfortunately near the restroom.

Pros
- Serves authentic Thai food
- Accommodating staff
- Nice restaurant ambience
Cons
- Pricey
- Small serving portions, especially for the appetisers
Sabai is proof that authentic Thai food can be found outside its motherland, and the dishes we tried were certainly just as fresh as the ones we tried in Thailand.
The restaurant itself is very warm, and the interior had bits and pieces of traditional Thai elements. Even some of the staff were Thai and were very accommodating from the get-go.
Since we were paying a pretty penny by dining at Sabai, we asked the staff to recommend some of their best dishes. And boy did they deliver.
For our starters, they suggested that we try their peh tawd or spring rolls and their satay gai or chicken satay, and both were savoury delights.
The spring rolls were fresh and every bite packed a crunch. On the other hand, the chicken satay was very tender and tasted even better when dipped in the rich peanut sauce.
We also tried their tom yam gung or spicy and sour prawn soup and were amazed by its acidic and aromatic broth.
Their gang mussaman neua or peanut curry with beef was also a standout, and its sweet, nutty, and salty flavours were the perfect combination to offset the prawn soup.
Now, while we did enjoy our food and found them all delectable, it would have been nicer if the serving sizes were bigger. The appetisers, in particular, had very small portions.

Pros
- Affordable
- Generous serving size
Cons
- Almost always packed with patrons
- Serving speed may take more than 30 minutes
If you’re looking for a restaurant to satisfy your Thai food craving, Jai Thai’s quick and affordable Thai dishes should be one of your considerations.
Their green curry beef and pad thai prawn are sure to fill your belly and satisfy your taste buds with their savoury goodness.
Not only is the curry in the beef rich, but it’s also a perfect blend of saltiness and just a little bit of acidity, which makes biting into the tender meat even better. The pad thai is also very tasty, especially the well-seasoned prawns.
Whenever we dine in this restaurant, we always order their crispy fried kang kong, which is a very simple yet addictive dish that’s perfect to rouse your palate for bigger meals.
Now, if you want to try Jai Thai’s food, we suggest you bring your friends or family since they don’t skimp on the food portions.
The only real downside that we noticed in Jai Thai is that the interior is slightly outdated and worn down.
On top of that, the restaurant is almost always crowded and the serving speed is relatively slow since most people who dine here come in groups. So be prepared to wait for your food for more than 30 minutes.
Overall though, we’d brave the crowd if we had to for delicious yet affordable Thai food.

Pros
- Serves hearty and filling Thai dishes
- Has been in the industry for more than 30 years
Cons
- Almost always packed; difficult to secure a table
- Serving speed may take more than 40 minutes
Ever since its establishment in 1988, Thanying has been many Singaporeans’ go-to for fresh and authentic Thai food.
Since it’s basically a family restaurant, finding a table is a tedious endeavour. However, their food is truly worth trying (and sometimes even worth the wait.)
We especially love their peek gau sod sai, which is a boneless chicken wing stuffed with minced chicken and Thai herbs, and their ka jiaw nuer-po or fried egg with crab meat.
The chicken wing, albeit simple, is very hearty, and the Thai herbs in the minced chicken really offset the saltiness. The egg with crab meat, on the other hand, is not just well-seasoned but also melts in your mouth.
However, as much as we love the food, we’d appreciate it a bit more if they didn’t take more than 40 minutes to serve our orders.
