Halal Delights The 5 Best Halal Restaurants in Singapore

Halal Delights: The 5 Best Halal Restaurants in Singapore

  • Menu Range – We picked halal restaurants that have a diverse menu range to cater to palates of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
  • Dining Experience – We picked restaurants where we felt comfortable dining. We assessed the restaurant’s ambience, customer service, and serving speed.
  • Quality of Food – We chose halal restaurants that serve good food and rated the freshness of the ingredients used, food presentation, and portions.
  • Cost – We evaluated each restaurant’s pricing and assessed whether the taste, presentation, and ingredients used for their dishes justify the price.

Singapore is home to a large Muslim population. Therefore, restaurants serving scrumptious fares prepared following Islamic dietary laws are relatively easy to find.

With so many options, the difficulty now lies in finding halal restaurants that are standouts. Lucky for you, we knew where to look!

So whether you’re a practising Muslim craving exquisite halal food or just a non-religious Joe raring to expand your gastronomic experience, here’s a list of the best halal restaurants in Singapore that dish out the best cuisines.

Pros

  • Serves halal French cuisine
  • Serves hearty and well-seasoned meals
  • Has a cosy and warm interior

Cons

  • Relatively small interior
  • Gets crowded even before peak hours
  • Tends to have a queue outside the establishment

If you’re a fan of French cuisine, The Secret Garden might be your next fave halal dining spot. We were initially intrigued by this place due to its cosy and warm interior, but the food impressed us too.

Their chilli burrata salad, in particular, was a delightful starter. The burrata was a perfect balance of creamy and chewy and was a delicious accompaniment to the charred peaches served with it.

We followed the salad with their honey mustard chicken and paprika-grilled aubergine, which were hearty and filling.

The chicken was succulent and well-seasoned but could use a little bit more mustard to balance out the sweetness of the honey.

Do try the aubergine though because it was practically perfect. Every piece was grilled to perfection and dusted with just the right amount of salt and paprika.

We wouldn’t have minded staying longer, but The Secret Garden’s relatively small interior was starting to feel stuffy and there was even a small queue forming outside.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Serves classic halal Malay food
  • Serves hearty and well-seasoned meals

Cons

  • Bare interior
  • Always packed with patrons

HJH Maimunah’s affordable halal dishes are many Singaporeans’ go-to for a quick, affordable, and satisfying meal.

We simply couldn’t get enough of their famous beef rendang set and barbecue seabass.

With just a nibble, we could already tell that the beef was slow-cooked in coconut milk and was lathered with the right amount of herbs and spices.

The seabass, on the other hand, was grilled to perfection. It was tender and every bite showcased the soy marinade.

HJH Maimunah also serves some traditional desserts, with our favourite being the sweet and chewy pandan-flavoured onde-onde.

If you haven’t been to this restaurant, be warned that it gets packed. Fret not though because the servers are quick to bring your food despite the overwhelming number of patrons they get on a regular basis.

Pros

  • Serves halal Italian food
  • Serves hearty and well-seasoned meals
  • Incorporates fresh ingredients in their dishes like fresh burrata and fresh parmesan

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Slow serving speed

If you fancy some Italian food but fear that you won’t find any halal ones, well, look no further because Kucina might just be your next go-to.

We’ve been to this Italian-Muslim restaurant enough times that we already have our favourites: burratina, arancini di ragu, and linguine pescatora.

The burratina has perhaps one of the freshest burrata we’ve ever tasted. It’s creamy, chewy, and a bit salty, which balances the slightly acidic marinated strawberry and plum.

The arancini is also a mouthwatering treat that may look like a regular fried rice ball on the outside but actually packs a medley of savoury flavours.

Out of the three, the linguine is actually the one we order the least just because it’s not something new to us. Whenever the seafood craving struck though, this tomato-based pasta would always hit the spot.

Since we claim ourselves regulars now, we’ve grown quite used to Kucina’s rather slow serving speed. However, there were some instances when we got our orders past the 40-minute mark, which, even to us, was too much.

We hope they pick up their pace soon since they charge a steep price for their food and people expect it to reflect in their service as well.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Generous serving size
  • Uses fresh ingredients such as falafels and tahini sauce

Cons

  • Limited menu range
  • Can get crowded during peak hours

Overrice may not have the most diverse menu range, but people, us included, still queue for their halal rice bowls and pita pockets.

Our personal favourites are their falafel bites and chicken pita pocket. And sometimes we also like treating ourselves to their Overrice chilli beef fries.

The falafel they use tastes fresh, and every bite is delectable. We could also tell that they used homemade tahini sauce because we immediately smelled the nuttiness of the sesame.

Their chicken pita pocket is quite frankly nothing to write home about, but for just $7, you get a big portion of well-seasoned chicken wrapped in large pita bread. To us, that’s a steal.

We recommend stopping by this place before and after peak hours because it gets really crowded.

We made the mistake of dining in this restaurant during lunchtime and saw an influx of office workers scrambling for vacant tables.

Pros

  • Serves halal Japanese food
  • Uses fresh seafood
  • Udon is made in-house

Cons

  • Limited seating
  • Can get crowded even before and after peak hours

Fu-Men Japanese Udon & Donburi Restaurant is best known for its halal Japanese food, especially its big bowls of warm and hearty udon.

Our best picks would be the beef udon and prawn tempura udon, but both equally have rich broths that are perfect to slurp on a rainy day.

The beef, in particular, is juicy and has absorbed some of the umami seasoning from the broth. We could even tell that it was braised for a long time because it almost melted in our mouths.

Although relatively subtler in flavour compared to the beef udon, the prawn tempura deserves the spotlight for its light and airy batter. We forgot to ask the type of prawn they used, but it was noticeably fresh and tasted fantastic too.

The udon was also chewy, and just by how well it held the broth, we figured that they also made it in-house.

We want you to note though that Fu-Men Japanese Udon & Donburi Restaurant has very limited seating. So expect it to be crowded even past peak hours.
