Where to Cool Down: The Best 5 Craft Beer Bars in Singapore

Our team scoured the city for craft beer finds, evaluating each bar based on the following criteria:

Menu range

We picked bars with extensive selections of craft beers to ensure that each can cater to people’s diverse preferences.

We also gave additional points to bars that offer plenty of food options that go well with their brews.

Years in the business

We selected bars that have been in the industry for a minimum of three years. The longer their staying power, the higher the score.

Location

We picked bars that are easy to reach by both locals and tourists but secluded enough for people to enjoy their craft beers in peace.

We also looked into each bar’s interiors, assessing if the place gives off the right vibe for a relaxing sip.

Customer service

We chose bars that have friendly and attentive wait staff members.

Pros

  • Beers rotate every week
  • Warm and friendly staff
  • Tasty Japanese food available to order

Cons

  • Not for customers with specific beer preferences
  • Heavily gray interior not that inviting

MALT Craft Beer Bar stood out to us for its 12 rotating taps. Updated weekly, its beer selection ranges from fruity lagers to downright edgy ales.

During our visit, we thoroughly enjoyed sipping the Alive SG Magic Technique Smoothie Sour for its rich and thick texture.

The Revision Citra Siam IPA, meanwhile, brought about memories of tropical vacations, with flavors of tangerines and passionfruit dancing as we drank our share.

We ordered an oden set and sashimi from Omu Nomu to pair with our beers. Props to the people who prepared the dishes, as they were delightful to the palate!

However, know that ordering Japanese food here might be a hassle to some, as you need to book your orders first before your visit.

The cool thing is that the bar allows you to bring in takeaway food. If you can’t decide on the menus from MALT’s partner restos, this option is more practical.

We think that the ever-changing taps might not work well all the time, too. After all, there might be a chance that we won’t like any of the available choices.

If you’re someone who loves to stick to a brew, then either check their website for weekly updates to see if your favorite is up or look for a more consistent bar.

Pros

  • Competitive food prices
  • Decent selection of local brews
  • Relaxing, open space
  • Plenty of delectable mains and bar bites

Cons

  • Needs improvement with service efficiency
  • Might get too busy

Though relatively new in the city, George Town is a force to reckon with thanks to its memorable local brews and hearty meals.

Our drinking session here included Brewlander’s wild IPA and summer ale, plus a locally distilled chendol gin for good measure.

Of the two brews, what matched the Singapore signature heat better was the Hope Summer Ale with its lightness, accentuated by fruity notes found in the tropics.

The Love Wild IPA, meanwhile, burst with fruity flavors but was hoppier than refreshing thanks to its distinct bitter finish.

As for the food, we think you’ll never go wrong with the bar’s black pepper beef and the Thai soft-shell crab. Both were undeniably scrumptious and went well with our drinks.

Some of my companions loved the butter prawns, too, but I think the dish could use some improvement since it wasn’t cooked thoroughly to my liking.

Service was a bit slow, too, especially when it came to serving beers. The saving grace was the complimentary assorted nuts that helped highlight the liquor’s taste.

We observed that the staff got a little flustered when night fell and the place turned busier. If they improve that aspect (and maintain their good points), we think George Town can go a long way.

Pros

  • Wide range of craft beer options
  • Filling American food
  • Relaxing ambiance
  • Family-friendly during the day

Cons

  • Location is a bit difficult to reach
  • Often busy

Ziggy Zaggy’s photos highlighting the ambiance of the place were enough for us to seek out this hidden gem in Kampong Bugis.

And we’re glad we did, as we had the chance to sample some of its whopping 18-tap selection of craft beers in a cozy, relaxing space.

Sitting in the al-fresco area while surrounded by greenery made the drinking and eating all the more refreshing, too.

We can’t possibly taste all the craft beers, but we did score excellent ones like the Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout from Japan and the local Brewlander Euphoria. Yes, we do love stronger drinks!

We were also delighted by the array of American food. We think the short ribs and classic cheeseburger were the tastiest.

The starters and some pizza flavors, however, came short of our expectations.

Generally, we enjoyed drinking here, but know that Ziggy Zaggy is one of the more popular bars in Singapore despite its location. The place was busier than usual when we visited.

Thankfully, the wait staff team was efficient, so we experienced satisfactory service.

Pros

  • Fresh and tasty craft beer selection
  • Quaint, welcoming tasting room
  • Allows customers to bring in food takeaways

Cons

  • Limited space
  • A bit on the expensive side

Pink Blossoms Brewing’s set-up had an effortless pull to the beer lovers in us.

The small yet welcoming tasting room is directly connected to the microbrewery, ensuring the freshness of the bar’s signature ales and stouts.

I had the time of my life chugging down the uber refreshing Hundred Years milk stout. Thankfully, I’m not lactose intolerant.

My companions, meanwhile, won’t stop talking about the Don’t Stop Believing New England IPA’s juicy and slightly bitter finish.

The place was tiny, and as we arrived a bit late, it was close to being cramped. That also meant the noise control was nearly nonexistent (we had to raise our voices to hear each other talk).

As no food was served in the tasting room, we also had to order from a food delivery service. If you’re not a fan of that, you can opt to bring takeaways instead.

While we think the no-food-in-place was a bit of a hassle, the solid craft beer selection more than made up for it.

Know, though, that the drinks here were a bit on the pricey side, so plan your budget accordingly.

Pros

  • High-quality brews
  • Wide selection of dishes
  • Offers beautiful city views

Cons

  • Not ideal for walk-ins
  • A bit pricey

Level 33 is like any other Singapore microbrewery in that it has a decent selection of freshly brewed craft beer and a wide array of dishes.

Except here, we were in for a treat thanks to the bar’s location.

Sipping my glass of malty stout while overlooking Marina Bay was certainly a grand experience. The beer’s silky texture and whiffs of coffee and chocolate were welcome sensations, too.

My companions, meanwhile, loved the bar’s hoppy IPA, indulging in its aroma as they looked at the Singapore skyline.

beer5

That said, it’s crucial to book a table at this bar, as walk-ins will be hard-pressed to find a decent seat (we’re glad we followed the advice of the patrons here!).

Level 33 is a constantly busy place—so busy that we felt the magic of the city views wane as more people came in.

Our respite, though, was the raw bar, where we got our fresh oysters, chilled seafood, and raw Hokkaido scallops.

While we were content with the raw goods, we thought coming into this bar hungry was not a practical idea, as the mains were quite pricey.
