Top 5 Budget-Friendly Hotels in Singapore

How We Picked

To write this review, we had our team members book a night or two in several affordable hotels in the region. We evaluated each hotel based on the following criteria:

Rooms

Since we’re talking about budget hotels, we prioritized comfort, cleanliness, and acceptable furnishings over modernity and luxury when we rated the rooms.

Also, we gave additional points to hotels that went beyond what the rates made us expect of them.

Location

We rated hotels according to their proximity to tourist spots, restaurants, shops, and transportation.

Facilities and amenities

We picked hotels that have the basic facilities and amenities that we require as guests such as bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi connection, and the like.

Customer service

Our selection includes hotels that were responsive to our booking inquiries, pleasant and welcoming when we arrived, and attentive to our needs during our stay.

Pros

  • Clean, minimalist room interiors
  • Secluded from the city buzz
  • Accommodating service desk

Cons

  • No on-site breakfast
  • Noise proofing of walls needs work

Lloyd’s Inn is a lovely place, as it’s thoughtfully designed to serve as a haven in the middle of a city. Surrounded by greenery, the hustle and bustle aren’t felt here.

The three-star hotel offers eight room types with either queen or king beds and plenty of windows to let natural light in.

There’s so much to love about the room we booked, and our favorite is the minimalist, clean interiors. Also, the beds were immaculate.

We also remember with fondness how the sunlight streamed into our room in the morning. That, and the surrounding greenery made for a great start to the day.

We had minor issues, though, such as one of our toilet doors not closing tightly and the pool not looking as inviting as in the photos.

The concept of a complimentary breakfast was nice, but we needed to go to the nearest cafe, as the hotel only provided vouchers.

Alternatively, the common pantry was available to anyone who wanted to make coffee on their own.

Pros

  • Competitive rates
  • Rooms have park and city views
  • Close to the mall
  • Attentive concierge

Cons

  • A bit far from tourist attractions
  • Limited TV channels

Our stay in Ramada by Wyndham was memorable in part because of our room’s large windows, offering gorgeous views of the city.

The beds were also big and comfy, though we would have loved it more had the room been more spacious.

Still, the TV and fast Wi-Fi made it so we were mostly glued under the sheets, lying there and idling the evening away watching and surfing.

We also think that travelers will love the fact that a mall and restaurants are a stone’s throw away from the hotel.

Exploring such leisure stops can help one make the most of Singapore’s shopping and dining experiences.

That said, premiere attractions such as the Singapore Botanic Gardens and Marina Bay are a bit far. Fortunately, the hotel is right in front of a bus stop, so commuting shouldn’t be much of a hassle.

3. Orchard Hotel Singapore

Pros

  • Premium location for leisure activities
  • Friendly, accommodating concierge
  • Spacious rooms
  • Tasty breakfast

Cons

  • A bit far from transit
  • Room design needs a revamp

Orchard Hotel’s proximity to the famous shopping district and its lavishly decorated rooms were head-turners for us. After our stay, we can say that the experience was pleasant overall.

Our room, aside from being spacious, had a large, fluffy bed and comfy upholstered chairs, perfect for rest. Though we must say that the aesthetic look a bit dated.

There was a little hitch during our check-in, but the staff took action promptly, earning the hotel points for customer service.

The hotel itself was too busy to our liking, though. We experienced a little queue during breakfast and the pool was a bit crowded.

That said, we think you’d like to stay in the hotel if you want to spend most of your time in your room or out in Orchard Road shopping.

Pros

  • Ideal for long stays
  • Close to leisure destinations
  • Room has adjustable reading lights

Cons

  • Some rooms have poor noise-proofing
  • Spotty Wi-Fi

The lyf Funan apartment hotel was the outlier on our list, as it’s located inside a mall, which is unusual for accommodations.

Regardless of the said quirk, the hotel’s apartment room was perfect for resting and showering. The furnishing was practical and modern, too.

It was also refreshing to use the social kitchen, as we met travelers from other parts of the country and abroad.

However, we think the co-working lounge was not conducive to working. It was crowded and a bit noisy for us.

We heard that some of the clients also experienced noise at night due to their room’s proximity to the road. While we didn’t experience this, we sure hope that the hotel will have a workaround.

Know that the apartment hotel is unlike other hotels where you can rely on room service, too. We think that’s reasonable, though, given the room rates and the length of stay allowed.

5. YOTEL Singapore

Facilities: Service robots, pool, gym, co-working space

Pros

  • Has modern rooms with views
  • Excellent location
  • Uses modern service robots

Cons

  • Small rooms
  • Check-in time a bit late at 3 PM

YOTEL Singapore is an attractive budget hotel for its hipster vibe and proximity to Orchard Road.

We particularly like how check-in was so easy. Also, the service robots were efficient in what they do, not to mention adorable!

We also love that the room was extremely clean and had views. However, the limited space makes it ideal only for sleeping, showering, and watching some TV.

That said, we think housekeeping should be more frequent, especially if the room is used by people staying for business purposes for a longer period.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s pool looked so lovely but tiny. We only dipped into it when most of the guests were out doing something else.
